End of an Era: Oak Mountain Amphitheatre to Close After Nearly 40 Years

PELHAM, Ala. (AP) — After nearly four decades as a cornerstone of Alabama’s live music scene, the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre is set to close its doors. The iconic venue in Pelham will host its final concert on October 15, 2024, featuring award-winning artist Post Malone.

Opened in 1986, the amphitheater has been a premier destination for music lovers, boasting a seating capacity of 10,500 and hosting legendary acts such as R.E.M., Bon Jovi, and Willie Nelson. Known for its state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology, the venue has provided an unparalleled concert experience for fans across genres.

The closure comes as Live Nation prepares to shift operations to a new amphitheater being constructed in Birmingham’s Uptown district. Scheduled to open in June 2025, the new venue will feature a capacity of 9,280 and aims to attract approximately 120,000 attendees annually

Local businesses express concern over the impact of the closure. Javier Jerez, owner of Margarita Grill, lamented the loss, stating it would significantly affect local commerce. Despite these challenges, Live Nation remains optimistic about the new venue’s potential to enhance Birmingham’s cultural landscape.

As Oak Mountain Amphitheatre prepares for its final bow, it leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and community engagement.
