BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham’s largest-ever mural festival takes over the Parkside District on Saturday, with more than 30 new murals by more than 40 artists across two blocks of 1st Avenue South.

The inaugural Yonder Walls Mural Festival runs from noon to 8 p.m. at Urban Supply, 1301 1st Ave. S. Admission is free.

Artists spent the past week transforming the walls around Urban Supply, THRIVE Coworking, Fairway Social and Up-Down Arcade Bar into large-scale works of art. The festival offers the first public look at the finished murals.

The festival was founded by local muralists Sean Gilder, Levi Levinson and Jordan Thompson of Bendy Knees Design Co. to create paid, large-scale opportunities for Alabama artists.

“Artists in Alabama don’t always have access to the large-scale, paid opportunities needed to build sustainable creative careers, and Yonder Walls was created to help change that,” Thompson said. “We want artists to be able to build careers here at home and that starts with providing access and opportunity.”

More than 25 local makers and vendors will set up at the festival, along with food trucks, a Kids’ Zone and a Community Art Wall. Live music runs throughout the day, headlined by Pynk Beard, who recently appeared on “America’s Got Talent.”
