Tornado Tears into Alabama TV Station During Live Broadcast

DOTHAN, Ala. — A suspected tornado slammed into WDHN, the ABC affiliate in Dothan, on Monday night while the station was live on the air, knocking down part of the roof, breaking windows and damaging vehicles outside, according to broadcast reports and videos shared online.

The storm hit during severe weather coverage, when the station was already tracking tornado warnings across southeast Alabama. Video posted by the station and shared by national outlets shows the suspected tornado moving directly over the building as the live broadcast continued.

WDHN’s Facebook page said the station was damaged by a possible tornado and indicated its security camera captured the moment the storm struck. Other weather reports and posts described the tornado as moving through the Dothan and Headland area late Monday, as storms intensified across the region.

The available reporting does not show any immediate injuries at the station, but it does confirm building damage and water intrusion inside the news operation. The event quickly drew attention because the station was in the middle of live severe weather coverage when the tornado hit.
