Hospital Elevator Malfunctions with Workers Inside, Eyewitness Describes 6-Story Drop

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An elevator at Baptist Health Princeton Hospital malfunctioned Wednesday morning with several team members aboard, prompting medical evaluations and an urgent hospital advisory, hospital officials said.

A woman aboard the elevator told WBRC-TV FOX 6 that the cab dropped six floors in a terrifying sequence, though Princeton Baptist described only a malfunction without confirming the extent of the plunge. The hospital quickly restored the elevator to service and urged all employees involved to seek medical attention, according to a spokesperson.

The incident, which occurred at the Birmingham hospital, heightened concerns over equipment reliability in a facility where staff and patients depend on elevators daily. All team members were evaluated following the malfunction, WTAT Birmingham reported.

Princeton Baptist confirmed the elevator was back to normal operation later Wednesday. No further details on injuries or an official investigation were immediately available.
