BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A juvenile male suffered life-threatening injuries after a shooting Sunday evening in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood, police said. Officers responded at 6:21 p.m. to the 200 block of 4th Court West following reports of gunfire, marking another violent incident in a city grappling with a spike in shootings early this year.
The Black male juvenile arrived on his own at Birmingham Fire Station 14, located nearby on 25th Street Ensley, with a gunshot wound to his body, authorities reported. He was rushed by ambulance to UAB Hospital, where he remained in critical condition late Sunday.
Birmingham police had no suspect information or motive to release as of early Monday, and the investigation continued with detectives canvassing the residential block for witnesses and surveillance video. The area, known for its tight-knit community amid ongoing concerns about gun violence, saw multiple police vehicles on scene into the night.
This shooting adds to Birmingham’s tally of violent incidents in 2026, following a string of homicides and non-fatal shootings that have prompted community calls for intervention. No arrests had been announced in connection with the case.
