16-Year-Old From Fultondale Charged With Capital Murder in Ensley Shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 16-year-old from Fultondale was arrested and charged with capital murder after shooting an 18-year-old in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood, police said Saturday.

The victim, identified as Myca Clark Jr., was fatally shot on Avenue K in Ensley on the evening of Nov. 8. Police responded to a report of gunfire near Ensley Park after ShotSpotter technology detected multiple gunshots. Emergency responders found Clark and a second male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Clark was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he died.

The suspect was taken into custody the same day after police received tips from the community. Both the suspect and victims are believed to have known each other, and the shooting reportedly followed a confrontation between groups who had met at Ensley Park.

Birmingham Police said the case is under active investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the department’s Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.

This homicide marks the 70th investigated in Birmingham in 2025, a year in which violent crime has slightly trended downward but remains a significant concern for neighborhoods like Ensley, which have long battled economic challenges and high crime rates.

Efforts to curb gun violence in Birmingham include increased use of ShotSpotter technology and community policing initiatives, though incidents such as this underscore ongoing struggles with youth violence and firearm-related crimes.

Residents of Ensley, a historic industrial corridor known for its once-thriving motor and manufacturing industries, continue to face the challenges of economic transition and public safety risks.

The Birmingham Police Department continues to seek community cooperation to address violent crime and is reminding residents about anonymous tip lines that offer rewards for information leading to arrests.
