Alabama Car Collector Auctions Off 1,300-Vehicle Fleet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A massive car auction featuring more than 1,300 vehicles collected by Alabama businessman Greg Rusk is underway, offering everything from classic Cadillacs to vintage Camaros for sale with no reserve, organizers announced this week.

Rusk, owner of Rusken Packaging with headquarters in Cullman and extensive business ties to Birmingham, spent nearly three decades assembling his “Generous Collection,” often by paying local sellers above market rates, especially when cars were sold to cover medical bills or avoid repossession. The auction, hosted online by Hagerty Marketplace, opened in early October with more than 200 cars, including American classics, European imports, and a range of vehicles in various conditions. Hundreds of additional cars are scheduled to be offered in gradual batches throughout the coming months.

Bidders from Birmingham and across Alabama are expected to take part as the entire inventory—stored in six buildings around the state—changes hands. Rusk began the collection seeking a Cadillac from every model year, but his approach evolved to include Chevrolets, Fords, Pontiacs, Buicks, and lesser-seen models such as LS-swapped Mazda RX-7s and King Midget microcars. Each sale comes with a visible local impact, as Rusk’s philosophy prioritized supporting fellow Alabamians and the broader automotive community rather than private profit.

With no reserve prices and a wide variety of makes and conditions, organizers say the auction gives everyone—from first-time buyers to dedicated collectors—a chance to own a piece of Alabama car history while continuing Rusk’s legacy of generosity.
