Man Found Dead in Porta Potty at Walker County Flea Market

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. – A man was found dead in a porta potty at the old flea market off Highway 78 in the Argo area, authorities said late Friday.

Walker County Coroner Joey Vick confirmed the body was discovered at the site, which has been a fixture for local bargain hunters and vendors for decades. Vick said investigators do not suspect foul play. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to officials.

The body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Officials have not released details on how long the man may have been inside the portable restroom.

The flea market, situated along the bustling Highway 78 corridor, regularly draws crowds from across Walker County and the surrounding area, especially on weekends. Though activity at the market has slowed in recent years, it remains a well-known landmark in the Argo community.

As of Saturday, the investigation remains open pending autopsy results, but authorities emphasized there is no evidence of foul play connected to the death.
