BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bartow Arena, home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s basketball and volleyball programs, is set to undergo a $14.6 million renovation following unanimous approval by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.
The upgrade plan features an expanded entrance lobby, a club-level lounge with premium seating, replacement of lower bowl retractable seating and updated lighting and restrooms throughout the concourse.
Renovation work is scheduled to begin after UAB’s Spring 2026 Commencement, contingent on the university reaching fundraising benchmarks and receiving final board approvals. UAB officials say the project is intended to strengthen the visibility of men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball, while also enhancing the campus gameday experience.
Bartow Arena, which opened in 1988, has been a centerpiece for UAB athletics and university events. More information about the ongoing project and opportunities to contribute can be found through UAB Athletics and Blazer Boosters.
