PELHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Bulls are still looking for their first win of the season, and the SPHL is not easing them into the schedule.
The Bulls host the Evansville Thunderbolts on Friday night at the Pelham Civic Complex, facing the league’s two-time defending Presidents Cup champions in just their second game of the season. Evansville raised its second straight championship banner last weekend.
Birmingham opened the season Oct. 16 with a 1-0 loss to Pensacola at home, a game decided by goaltending. Hayden Stewart made 37 saves for the Bulls, but Birmingham’s offense never found the net.
Friday is Small Dog Race night at the Pelham Civic Complex, part of a 31-game home schedule that runs through April.
The Bulls are playing their 10th season since returning to central Alabama in 2017 and have reached the playoffs each of the last two seasons.
The weekend does not slow down from here. Birmingham travels to Macon on Saturday for the Mayhem’s home opener at 5 p.m.
