North Birmingham gets New Hub to Connect Residents with Housing, Food and Health Help

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The city has launched a new North Birmingham Community Service Hub and companion website aimed at helping residents more easily find social services, including housing, food, health care, transportation, employment and utility assistance. The pilot program is located at The Salvation Army in North Birmingham and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The city’s Innovation Team, or i-Team, says the hub is designed as a neighborhood-based, in-person resource center where residents can get guidance, referrals and help navigating community programs. The launch also includes bham.findhelp.com, a free online platform the city says lets users search thousands of local programs and services at any time.

The hub serves residents across Birmingham’s 99 neighborhoods, city and news reports said, and is intended as a one-stop location for connecting people with assistance. Officials describe it as a pilot program for now.

The Salvation Army’s Birmingham Area Command lists social services hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., though the city’s hub itself operates on a narrower schedule. The site is at 2015 26th Ave. North.
