BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — One person suffered serious injuries and another was grazed by gunfire in a shooting early Sunday inside a nightclub in Birmingham’s Lakeview District, police said.
The Birmingham Police Department responded to reports of shots fired around 3:12 a.m. at Nana Funks, where officers found two people with gunshot wounds, according to multiple reports. One victim was hospitalized with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, while the second was grazed by a bullet.
No arrests have been announced and the investigation is ongoing. The incident occurred in the popular Lakeview entertainment area.
Lakeview District, a vibrant nightlife hub along 29th Street South near 8th Avenue South, draws crowds with its array of bars, restaurants and music venues like Nana Funks. Known for its walkable streets lined with trendy spots, the neighborhood has become a go-to destination for young professionals and visitors seeking Birmingham’s entertainment scene.
However, the area has faced recurring gun violence. In October 2024, three people were injured in an early-morning shooting in Lakeview, prompting community concerns over safety. A 2023 shootout there hospitalized four people. Sunday’s incident adds to those worries in the district, which police continue to patrol amid broader gun violence trends in Birmingham.
