HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Two people were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Homewood on Saturday night, according to police.
The Homewood Police Department said officers and fire personnel responded to a report of possible shots fired at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds.
Police said no one else was injured in the shooting and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to patients, staff or the public. Officials described the case as an apparent murder-suicide but did not immediately release further details about what led to the shooting.
Authorities have not publicly identified the two people who died, and investigators have not released information about their relationship or a possible motive. The incident prompted a visible law enforcement presence at the hospital campus as officers worked to secure the scene and begin the investigation.
Homewood police said the investigation is ongoing and indicated additional information may be released as it becomes available.
