Man in Custody: Noah Hendricks Accused of Killing Calera Girlfriend

CALERA, Ala. — A 23-year-old woman was shot to death in a north Calera home Thursday night, the latest domestic violence killing to rattle a community on Birmingham’s southern fringe.

Calera police said officers were called to a residence on The Heights Drive late Thursday, Feb. 12, where they found 23-year-old Jennifer Talley of Calera dead from gunshot wounds. The suspect, 22-year-old Noah Hendricks, was identified within hours, located in Clanton and taken into custody with help from multiple law enforcement agencies, according to police. Hendricks is charged with murder and is being held in the Shelby County Jail.

Investigators said the killing stemmed from a domestic relationship and emphasized that domestic situations account for a significant portion of the violent crimes they handle. Calera’s case echoes a broader pattern across the Birmingham metro area, where homicides frequently grow out of conflicts between people who know each other rather than random attacks by strangers — a reality that often cuts across neighborhood and city-suburb lines even when public perception focuses on inner-city violence.

Calera police said the investigation remains ongoing as evidence is processed and leads are pursued. The department credited the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Clanton Police Department and the Pelham Police Department with helping track and arrest Hendricks and document the scene.

Authorities in central Alabama noted that resources are available for people experiencing domestic violence, including SafeHouse of Shelby County, which operates a 24-hour crisis line and shelter, and the YWCA of Central Alabama, which provides crisis services in Jefferson and surrounding counties. Calera police said their Victim Services Coordinator can also connect victims with support and safety planning.
