Former WBRC Sports Reporter, Husband Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

HOOVER, Ala. — A family member pushed open the door to a quiet Hoover residence Tuesday morning, stepping into a shadowed scene where former WBRC sports reporter Christina Chambers and her husband lay dead from gunshot wounds.

Hoover police responded around 9:03 a.m. to the 700 block of Highland Manor Court, where fire-medics pronounced Chambers, 37, and Johnny Rimes dead at the scene. Their 3-year-old son was found unharmed inside the home, offering a stark contrast to the violence uncovered. Authorities described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide, with the investigation in early stages and no threat to the public.

Chambers left full-time work at WBRC in July 2021 to teach at Thompson High School, continuing to freelance high school football coverage into the 2025 season. The Cullman High School graduate and former UAB track athlete had reported earlier for WAKA in Montgomery and WLTZ in Columbus, Georgia. WBRC remembered her as a warm colleague with deep passion for local sports.

Detectives examined evidence including weapons found nearby, piecing together details in the subdued aftermath. The case remained under active review by Hoover police.
