Dewon Moton brings bold Birmingham art to Lawson State tonight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham muralist and multimedia artist Dewon Moton takes center stage at Lawson State Community College this evening with a free public reception showcasing his vibrant studio work.

The event, “An Evening with Dewon Moton,” runs from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the library on the college’s Birmingham Campus at 3060 Wilson Road SW. Visitors can enjoy live music, light refreshments and a close-up look at 20 original pieces, including multimedia angels, graphite drawings and mural-inspired works that capture Moton’s signature uplifting style.

A Birmingham native, Moton has painted eye-catching murals across neighborhoods like Woodlawn and beyond for nearly a decade, spreading themes of love, hope and positivity through bold colors and spray paint. This exhibition highlights his broader talents in oils, acrylics, sculpture and more, inviting the community to celebrate local creativity after work or with family.

The show remains on view through the end of December during regular campus hours, but tonight’s reception offers the best chance to experience the energy of Moton’s art in person. Birmingham residents have a prime opportunity to support a homegrown talent and dive into the city’s thriving public art scene at this accessible, feel-good event.
