Miles College Partners with Nvidia to Advance AI Education in Alabama

FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Miles College is setting a precedent for Alabama’s historically Black colleges with a groundbreaking partnership aimed at propelling artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. The college, based in Fairfield just outside Birmingham, has joined forces with leading chipmaker Nvidia to weave AI into the academic and community fabric, positioning Miles as a technological frontrunner among HBCUs.

College President Bobbie Knight sought out Nvidia for the initiative, recognizing the urgent need for AI literacy among students and faculty as industries increasingly depend on advanced technology. The agreement gives students and faculty access to Nvidia’s Deep Learning Institute resources and development tools. As a result, nearly half of faculty members at Miles College now incorporate AI technology into their curricula, while around 60 percent of research projects are focused on AI solutions for real-world problems.

The partnership centers around the college’s 2150 Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Growth, a new tech hub designed to foster entrepreneurship and support regional innovation. NVIDIA’s involvement is helping bring advanced AI certification opportunities to students and staff, building competitive skills for careers where artificial intelligence plays a role.

Miles College and Nvidia plan to extend the technology’s reach beyond campus, introducing AI fluency programs for local K-12 schools and launching community engagement initiatives to help bridge technology gaps in underserved areas of Alabama. According to Nvidia leadership, the push is intended to create immediate opportunities for students and their families, preparing graduates for fast-changing economic realities.

Community and academic leaders say Miles College’s active investment in AI marks a historic step for higher education in Alabama, especially for HBCUs.
