Birmingham Police Flood Streets, Arrest 41 in Week-Long Dragnet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Over the past week, a highly visible police crackdown across Birmingham led to 41 arrests as officers ramped up efforts to tackle gun violence and drug offenses throughout the city.

The Birmingham Police Department’s Special Enforcement Division, acting from Sept. 29 through Oct. 5, took 30 people into custody on felony charges and arrested 11 on misdemeanor offenses. Authorities also confiscated 11 firearms, including three reported stolen and one altered, during the sweep.

Police said the operation featured 100 traffic stops, 116 citations, and the impounding of nine vehicles. Officers also made 245 direct citizen contacts and conducted 34 neighborhood patrol assists, underscoring what the department called a strategic push to disrupt criminal activity and improve quality of life.

Drugs seized included cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, hydrocodone, marijuana, MDMA, oxycodone, and promethazine, along with $1,381 in cash.

Birmingham police officials emphasized that expanded enforcement efforts like this one will continue citywide, citing an ongoing commitment to public safety and community engagement as the city grapples with persistent crime challenges.
