BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama plumber pleaded guilty this week to federal charges after authorities said he tried to orchestrate a murder-for-hire scheme targeting his estranged wife and six adult children, offering tens of thousands of dollars to an undercover FBI agent posing as a hired killer.
Mohammad Mohammad, 64, admitted Wednesday in U.S. District Court to seven counts of murder for hire. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama said Mohammad first solicited help from a witness on Aug. 11, 2024, seeking someone to “take care of” his family amid bitter divorce proceedings. The witness contacted authorities, and Mohammad was soon introduced to an undercover agent posing as a hitman.
During a meeting, Mohammad provided the agent with photos and addresses of his wife and children, as well as detailed vehicle descriptions. Court records show he offered $20,000 for his wife’s murder and $5,000 for each child, handing over a $550 down payment and encouraging the agent to “start with one” and “take your time.” According to the complaint, Mohammad told the agent, “You pick and choose who you gunna take out, and get paid.”
The family’s ordeal stretched over several years, according to federal documents and police reports. In 2022, Mohammad faced charges after allegedly placing GPS trackers on his wife’s and children’s cars in violation of protective orders obtained by his wife and two children. Court records also documented a series of suspicious vehicle fires at his wife’s home, as well as credible allegations of escalating threats and physical abuse, including allegations of violence with weapons.
Mohammad’s sentencing is set for December 10. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison for each count of murder for hire.
