Suspect Jailed After Rocks Rain Down on Birmingham Drivers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Montgomery man is behind bars after police say he hurled large rocks at moving vehicles in Birmingham, leaving four cars damaged but causing no injuries Sunday, according to police and jail records.

Tyrese Hayes, 38, was arrested near Gadsden Highway and Roebuck Parkway after Birmingham police, conducting a business check in the area, were flagged down by a driver who reported the dangerous episodes. Officers quickly located and apprehended Hayes without incident, authorities said.

Hayes faces four counts each of reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, and throwing or shooting a deadly or dangerous object into an occupied vehicle, reflecting the gravity of the alleged attacks.

Police said four vehicles were hit by rocks during the incident. Investigators noted that while damage was sustained, no drivers or passengers reported any injuries.

Hayes is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $102,000 as the case awaits further action in court.
