BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham police have increased curfew enforcement for minors in recent weeks, mounting patrols and adding checkpoints in entertainment districts following a rise in late-night incidents.
The city’s ordinance bars anyone under 17 from public places after 9 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends without an adult, until 6 a.m. Police report several violations since Labor Day and have reminded parents about penalties.
Birmingham’s curfew dates to the 1990s, when restrictions were enacted in response to youth crime and homicides, and expanded in later years. Summer patrols and community education have become routine, and police say enforcement remains active as the school year continues.
City officials plan further outreach to families about curfew rules and youth safety.
