DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — A corrections officer at the DeKalb County Jail has been arrested on six counts of first-degree voyeurism following an internal investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Evan Blayne Wilborn, 38, of Rainsville, was taken into custody and transported to Cherokee County Jail, authorities said Wednesday.
The arrest was the result of an internal probe begun in August. Officials allege Wilborn’s actions involved videotaping female inmates during strip searches inside the facility. The investigation into misconduct remains active, and the Sheriff’s Office said additional charges and arrests may be pending.
Wilborn’s arrest marks another controversy in Alabama’s troubled corrections system, which has faced scrutiny for poor conditions, understaffing, and allegations of inmate mistreatment. This incident adds to growing public concern about accountability and safety in county jails and state prisons.
Local advocacy groups and some state lawmakers have called for reforms in the wake of ongoing revelations about abuse and neglect behind bars. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has not released further details about the investigation or about the terminated jail employee referenced in initial reports.
