Beloved Birmingham Bar Marty’s PM to Close After 31 Years

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marty’s PM, a cherished dive bar and late-night haven in Birmingham’s Five Points South, has announced it will close its doors after service on January 3, 2025, concluding a 31-year legacy that has deeply impacted the city’s nightlife and music scene.

Founded in 1993 by the late Harry M. “Marty” Eagle, Marty’s PM quickly became a cornerstone of Birmingham’s cultural fabric. Eagle, known for his warm hospitality and dedication to live music, cultivated an environment where patrons felt at home and local musicians found a welcoming stage.

Eagle’s passion for music and community was evident in the bar’s eclectic lineup of live performances, featuring genres from rock and roll to blues, folk, and jazz. Under his stewardship, Marty’s PM became a nurturing ground for both emerging and established artists, significantly contributing to Birmingham’s vibrant music scene.

After Eagle’s passing in 2013 at the age of 71, the establishment continued to honor his legacy by maintaining the inclusive and lively atmosphere he had created. The bar’s late-night hours, with the kitchen serving from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., made it a popular destination for night owls seeking good food and live entertainment.

In a heartfelt message to patrons, the Marty’s PM team expressed their gratitude: “Marty’s family and friends, It is with heavy hearts we tell you Marty’s PM is closing its doors after service on January 3, 2025.”

To commemorate its legacy, Marty’s PM will host a New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 2024, inviting patrons to celebrate the memories forged over three decades.

The closure of Marty’s PM marks the end of an era for Birmingham’s Five Points South neighborhood. Its absence will be felt by the community of patrons, musicians, and staff who have called it a second home.

As the final days approach, the Birmingham community reflects on the indelible mark left by Marty Eagle and his establishment—a testament to the power of music, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of local establishments.
