Alabama Youth Pastor Charged with Child Sex Trafficking

PLANTATION, Fla. — Stephen Johnson, a 40-year-old former volunteer youth pastor from Alabama, was arrested on charges of child sex trafficking. Authorities allege that Johnson was involved in trafficking a minor across multiple states, including Alabama, where he served for over a decade.

Johnson, who volunteered at a local church in Argo, was apprehended in Plantation, Florida. According to court documents, he met the victim online when she was 12 years old. Over time, he allegedly manipulated her into working as a sex worker.

Investigators claim that Johnson facilitated the girl’s activities and profited from her earnings. The victim reportedly made approximately $100,000, of which Johnson is accused of taking a 40% cut. The trafficking reportedly spanned several states, intensifying the charges against him.

Local authorities collaborated with federal agencies to track Johnson’s activities. “This case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement,” said Detective Maria Lopez of the Plantation Police Department.

Johnson is currently held on a $500,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with minors. His arrest has sent shockwaves through the community in Argo, where he was once considered a trusted figure.

The church where Johnson volunteered issued a statement expressing shock and pledging full cooperation with the investigation. “We are heartbroken by these allegations and are committed to supporting the victim and her family,” the statement read.

Johnson’s legal team has not yet commented on the charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about online safety and the exploitation of minors. Authorities urge parents to monitor their children’s online interactions closely.
