Beauty School Owner Accused of Voyeurism in Mobile, Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – Ratry Sathchakham, owner of Charles Academy, is facing a voyeurism charge after allegations emerged that a woman was secretly recorded at the beauty school. Elicia Jaxon claims she undressed in front of a Ring camera while having her underarms waxed. She noticed the device only after seeing a blue light, raising concerns about her privacy being violated.

Jaxon expressed fears about the footage being accessed by others, stating, “For all I know my nakedness could be over in Taiwan somewhere,” as reported by NBC 15. Attorney Richard Shields, representing Charles Academy, insists that cameras were visible and notices about them were posted. However, Jaxon argues these notices appeared only after she lodged her complaint.

The Mobile Police Department seized the cameras for investigation. Shields maintains that there was no recording and describes the case as a second-degree misdemeanor. Despite this, Jaxon remains determined to seek justice in court. Shields suggests Jaxon’s actions might be aimed at bolstering a civil claim, which she denies, emphasizing that “money has absolutely nothing to do with this.”

City inspectors also found several code violations at Charles Academy, including exposed wiring and improper use of extension cords[3]. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community watches closely to see how this case will impact privacy practices within local businesses.
