Motorist Killed in Targeted Shooting on I-65 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— A fatal shooting on Interstate 65 in Birmingham Tuesday night left 55-year-old Jonathan Lenair Bradberry dead, prompting authorities to classify the incident as a targeted attack. Bradberry was driving northbound when multiple shots were fired into his vehicle, causing him to lose control and crash into a concrete median near the 32nd Avenue exit. He was found by police in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound.

Construction workers in the vicinity reported hearing gunshots just before the crash, but investigators have yet to confirm whether Bradberry was specifically targeted or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Birmingham Police Department has stated that no suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Bradberry was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances leading to the attack.
