Francis Bacon’s Study for Head of George Dyre

This little portrait sold at Sotheby’s in London for $27 million. Not bad for half an hour work.

The AFP news service had the best headline. In their article called “Huge art sale brings home the Bacon,” they note that the art market is showing little sign of being hit by wider economic pressures. It’s not surprising that someone who has $27 million to drop on a painting isn’t sweating $4 a gallon gasoline.
