Pricked: Extreme Embroidery

The Museum of Arts and Design in New York will be showing “Extreme Embroidery” until April 27. Benji Whalen produced the work on the left, Fast Machine, and Andrea Dezs√∂ created the work on the right, My Grandmother Loved Me Even Though.

Here is an beautiful painting by Russian artist Yaroslav Kurbanov.

Though he refers to himself as a surrealist this, and many of his other works lack the “sur” and might be said to be just “realist.” But actually neither one of these terms are appropriate because both realism and surrealism are specific movements in art history that are pretty much over. You might call it classical realism or postmodernism. You’re definitely safe calling it a painting.

Christopher Lowther has an interesting exhibition up at the UAB Visual Arts Gallery until April 11. The show features a number of video installations dealing with the representation of sexual preference in cinema.
