Head Lice as Art

Seven young artists from Berlin are trying to stretch the boundaries of art by living in an Israeli museum for three weeks with lice in their hair.

“They insist it is not a gimmick.”

This, of course, depends on how you define the work “gimmick.”

Wim Delvoye’s Tattooed Pigs

Wim Delvoye is a vegetarian and a conceptual artist who has been tattooing pigs for over a decade. The tattooing is done in China where animal cruelty laws are less stringent than in Western countries where it’s still OK to grind up pigs and make them into sausage.

Henk Hofstra’s Urban River

In April 2007 Henk Hofstra painted a road in his home town of Drachten, The Netherlands, blue to symbolize water. It is 1000 meters long and was created to form an urban river and recreate the path of a waterway that used to be where the road currently is.
